Welcome to Whycocomagh Education
Centre.
Here at Whycocomagh Education
Centre we have students from grades Primary to grade eight
with an enrolment of approximately 150 students. Currently our school is
involved in a provincial initiative called “School
Accreditation”. Beginning the process in 2007, we have determined what
the school’s greatest needs are and we will be working to improve
in those areas over a four year period.
At WEC we strive to achieve
Academic Excellence and we incorporate environmental
initiatives in our curriculum as often as we can. We follow
the recycling and composting guidelines for the County; we
try to keep our school yard free of litter; students are
involved in a flower planting/beautifying project every
spring and our students also have the benefit of the
Eco-Centre in our school which further enhances our
environmental initiatives.
Our school offers a Gaelic
language program to students in grades five to eight. We
have a number of sports teams: soccer, volleyball,
basketball, badminton, table tennis, track and softball. We have a school
choir, chess after-school program, small school band program
as well as many other opportunities and groups in which
students can share their skills and talents.
Whycocomagh Education Centre is
located on the beautiful Bras D’Or Lake surrounded by
mountains. Eagles are
often found in the trees around the school grounds.
